Select is one of the most popular brands of CBD oil in the world. How do their cannabidiol products compare to the competition? ? In today’s review, Judson Ross of Thrive Yoga and Wellness will talk to you about a new product that we recently got at the studio called Select CBD 1000 mg Lemon Ginger Flavored CBD. This is a CBD Isolate, which means the company has virtually eliminated the THC from their products. However, Select CBD does not state that there are non-traceable amounts of CBD in this product, so if you are subject to random drug tests, this is definitely something to keep in mind. Level Select CBD provides 0% THC products for fitness enthusiasts. Our review will help you decide if it’s the right CBD brand for you.
Select CBD Review – Great Flavor and Strength (Updated Oct 2019)
This is it: the definitive, complete guide to Social CBD (used to be Select CBD). Our team reviewed every Select CBD product we could get our hands on so we could revamp this guide, and it is now safe to say that this is the best information out there.

Select CBD Review
We reviewed these Select CBD products so you can make the best purchase decisions when you’re looking to buy from Select CBD:
(Lavender and Cinnamon Relax, Grapefruit and Lemon Revive, and Spearmint and Peppermint Focus) : Unflavored, Lemon Ginger, and Lavender
We chose these products to test because we wanted to get the best sense of the brand we could. They also represent what’s on the market well, so we thought we could test them and compare them to the alternatives.
Social CBD (formally Select CBD) is a well-loved CBD product company that carries a wide variety of (delicious) things, such as gummies, drop a.k.a. tinctures, vape pens, topicals, and more! We’re big fans of Social CBD.
Overall Select CBD ‘Pros’
- Excellent quality CBD and CBD products
- Especially on the vapes, an outstanding value for the money
- Convenience and flavor stand out
Overall Select CBD ‘Cons’
- Lack of information on the website, including difficulty and extra steps accessing third-party lab report data
- Patches are functional but extremely costly and impractical
The best Select CBD vape pens, Select CBD drops, Select CBD muscle rubs, Select CBD gel caps, Select CBD patches, and the Montel line from Select CBD are all right here. Our team had to battle it out a couple of times, but overall we were able to choose our favorite Select CBD products based on performance, value, flavor, and ease of use.
Here’s what’s coming in this guide:
First we discuss Select CBD the brand, including some details about their extraction methods and quality control. We also cover awards, third-party testing, and the recent rebrand from Select CBD to Social CBD.
We describe the Select CBD product line, so you get a sense of everything they offer. We also discuss where to buy Select CBD and their policies on pricing and returns.
Next, we talk about CBD and the endocannabinoid system, including why these products work. We’ll also cover why CBD does not produce psychoactive effects.
Finally, we get into the details on how each product works, and the best Select CBD products.
Select CBD Vape Pens
These Social CBD Vape Pens come in several different flavors, including lavender, cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, and more. The hemp used in creating the CBD hemp-extract in the vape is made in American, third-party lab tested, and contains 0% THC.
Look and experience
The packaging of Select CBD is clean, modern, and beautiful. The vape pens all come in small, identical teal boxes. Only stickers differentiate the flavors, which is elegant, not annoying.
The vape itself is cylindrical and teal. Like any C cell, it lights up when you use it. Select CBD vapes are easy to use and smooth to hit, especially compared to rival disposable products.
One downside to any disposable pen like this is that you can’t see how low the oil level is getting visually—but you can tell based on the taste.
Select CBD vape pens blend great technology and ingredients to bring you high-quality flavor and serious performance. Part of a superior vape experience always starts with technology—even with a disposable vape pen. This is true with Select CBD vape pens, too.
Select uses a high-grade, American-made kanthal steel to build its vape pens. It also uses pure, unbleached Japanese cotton in its wicks—the part of the vape that draws the liquid containing CBD to to the coil to be heated.
Standard cotton wicks, which are used in many other vape pens, are less than ideal. Cotton is best to produce a neutral taste, but only unbleached, organic cotton ensures the best experience in terms of flavor and experience.
The cartridges that hold the Select CBD vape oil are pre-filled and ready to use out of the box. Each Select CBD vape pen heats its 250 mgs of product using ceramic core technology. This ensures the temperature stays in the zone and helps keep the taste on point.
The vape pen itself is tamper-resistant and airtight, so you don’t have to worry about leaks. Select’s quality control and reputation should also make you feel pretty secure about what you’re vaping.
A team handles quality control inspections, and checks every Select CBD vape cartridge for leaks, cracks, and unfilled tanks. During the inspection process, the cartridges cure for 24 hours. This allows the oil to completely saturate the wick, reducing the chance of a problem before the vape is ever sold.
For every three-second puff, the Select CBD vape pen delivers 1 to 2 mg of CBD. The CBD is derived from 100% organic hemp plant distillate. Along with the CBD, your vape holds essential oils, terpenes, and fractionated coconut oil (MCT).
Select CBD uses essential oils that are either highly refined or cold-pressed. These oils are locally in Oregon.
More compellingly, Select CBD uses MCT oil instead of other thinning agents such as propylene glycol (PG) and Polyethylene glycol (PEG) 400. Those substances produce a class 1 carcinogen, formaldehyde, which you’re not vaping thanks to Select.
Each vape costs $40 and holds 250mg of CBD, or $25 for 125mg. This breaks down to about $160 per 1000mg, which may seem to be on the expensive side.
However, it offers an advantage over tinctures in that it is a fantastic way to microdose and offers quicker relief. If you are a vaping fan, you can’t beat that quick delivery and the feeling you get from relief following those cloudy hits.
Select CBD puts its vape pens through serious quality control and curing before shipping and it shows. Curing saturates the wick with oil, reducing the chance of a burned tasting hit or a mechanical failure. These vapes last well, and no one on our team has seen one fail yet.
Also, when it comes to value, Select CBD vape pens are actually a better buy than they might seem to be, if vaping CBD works for you.
Because the larger Select CBD vape pens contain about 250 mg of CBD, they are somewhat higher than average to start with. They also a great deal, and provide a better experience for the money.
Every puff is about three seconds long, depending on the user and your goals. It’s a decent amount of vapor, especially for a disposable. All of our testers felt at least some effects within 15 minutes of vaping.
Select CBD vape pens offer the kind of convenient, positive feeling that feels close to instantaneous. They are disposable and ready to use out of the box—a really nice solution, even if you’re an experienced vaper who is used to some setup. No filling, charging, or anything else.
Select CBD vape pens come in six flavors:
- Cinnamon Relax
- Lavender Relax
- Lemon Revive
- Grapefruit Revive
- Peppermint Focus
- Spearmint Focus
So, the flavor. Many CBD products taste, how can we put this? Like ass. Really bad. Not these, though! Select CBD vape pens really are delicious. A few of our team testers confessed to using a few times them simply for the taste.
Even if you’re not a mint fan, the Spearmint and Peppermint are very nice. They produce strong flavor, but they don’t freeze off your nose hairs they way some mint flavors can. Overall we liked the coolness of Peppermint a little more.
The Cinnamon is warm but not uncomfortable. Those of us that don’t hate Lavender found that flavor pleasant, and the citrus flavors were really tasty to all of us, with Lemon having a slight edge over Grapefruit on numbers alone.
Overall, we got none of that weird grassy flavor you can get from CBD products. And each flavor came through from each vape.
The only down side was that—like any vape cartridge—toward the end, the flavor suffered a little. Still, this is more a sign of needing a new vape than a design flaw, and we took it as such.
Now, on to effects. As for effects, these Select CBD vape pens were awesome.
A few of our testers are experienced CBD users, so they were a little skeptical. In fact, Marta in particular was pretty sure she would not like these vape pens.
[Marta uses lots of CBD oil, every day. She is reliant on her CBD, so she is serious about effects. However, even Marta liked these CBD effects, which we’ll talk more about below.]
We used the Select CBD blends multiple times. We used them as the packaging seems to suggest—so, for example, before relaxing, chilling at home, or sleeping for the “relax” varieties, before needing to work, going out to be social, or hoping to focus for the “focus” varieties, and as a little pick-me-up for the “revive” varieties. We also did similar tasks without them [except for Marta, but more on this below], and of course with other CBD products we like.
All testers could tell the difference between using the Select CBD vapes and not using them, and that was true for every variety and every tester. The details are slightly more complicated, but there was no question that these CBD vapes worked well.
Select says that these CBD vapes take about 15 minutes to work, and this was very conservative. For most of us, we felt effects within just a few minutes, and they lasted for two to four hours. [Marta did not feel effects as long, but was already on a very high dose.]
From the Grapefruit, Lemon, Peppermint, and Spearmint we felt more energy and increased focus. We also felt a little more up, especially during those “down” parts of the day when your strength can fade. All four of these helped our team with productivity generally.
Many team members used these pens for anxiety, inflammation, and various forms of pain. One team member used the Grapefruit variety for allergies. Another team member used the Lemon variety for anxiety. Your mileage may vary!
Our team enjoyed both Cinnamon and Lavender before bed, except for one team member who dislikes lavender under any circumstances and refused to try the lavender vape pen. With that one exception, everyone who used these vape pens felt relaxed, calm, and sleepy.
Marta’s note on CBD vape pens: if you vape CBD, these are a great choice. If you need more CBD, you might also still want a high-dose tincture. You might benefit from both! Vaping CBD just delivers the cannabinoids in a different way. For me, I need a constant high level in my system, so I really need the high-dose tincture. However, I really love having these vapes around, especially when I want something right now!
Pros and Cons
Pros of the Select CBD vape pens:
- Beautiful design, great user experience
- High-end vape technology improves flavor, effects
- Higher CBD concentration than average adds value
- Delicious flavor
- Noticeably more effective overall
Cons for the Select CBD pens:
- Design of vape means you can’t tell oil is low until it tastes strange
The bottom line
Our favorite Select CBD vape pen is Peppermint Focus. Our team felt productive, calm yet energetic, and generally healthy and happy. We also truly loved how it tasted. For a midday pick-me-up, you cannot do much better than this delicious-yet-no-calorie option.
We also loved Cinnamon Relax. This is a great nighttime option, or one for a time when you really need to take a down a few notches.
Select CBD Drops
CBD Oil Tinctures in various potencies, between 250mg and 2000mg. Available in Lemon Ginger, Lavender, Peppermint, and Unflavored. You can get these tinctures as isolate or as a broad spectrum (< 0.3% THC).
Look and experience
Similar to the Select CBD vape pens, Select CBD drops feature beautiful, identical teal packaging with third-party lab results right on the box. The tinctures themselves come in dark amber glass bottles to protect their potency.
One great bonus: the bottle also has a marked dropper inside to show you how much oil you’re using. A full dropper contains 1ml of liquid or 33.33mg of CBD, but there are 0.25ml markings too for smaller doses. This makes the product easier to use for more people.
Unflavored Select CBD Drops are the simplest version of this product. This tincture contains the basic ingredients for each other version of Select CBD drops, but this pared-down version remains powerful.
The Unflavored variety is a blend of CBD oil and fractionated coconut oil or MCT. MCT is derived from standard coconut oil, by removing lauric acid. This high-fat content carrier that stays in liquid form, even when refrigerated, because of its structure, making it a better vehicle for the CBD oil.
Each of the other flavors also have these two basic ingredients, along with organic essential oil blends. These blends add to the appeal of each flavor.
Lavender Relax Select CBD Drops also include passion flower, chamomile, and lavender extract, which many consumers choose for calming effects. They also include stevia extract for a sweet, soothing flavor.
Lemon-Ginger Energy Select CBD Drops include infusions of ginger, lemon, and turmeric. They also include ashwagandha, which some people take for stress. These natural substances lend the drops energizing qualities. Of course the drops also contain stevia extract, and along with the other oils, taste great.
Peppermint Focus Select CDB Drops contain peppermint essential oil, which boosts energy naturally. The drops also contain ashwagandha and rhodiola, and stevia extract for sweetness.
We tried all four of the flavors of Select CBD drops: Lavender, Lemon Ginger, Peppermint, and Unflavored. The Select CBD tinctures are about 3.33 percent CBD for a 1000 mg bottle. That’s around 33.33 mg per serving in a 30 mL bottle—a pretty average concentration for a tincture.
However, Select CBD drops are not a full-spectrum product. They use CBD isolate, and therefore some users might requires more. (There is, of course, no THC in these drops, a benefit of using CBD isolate.)
Most testers on our team enjoyed the Lemon Ginger Select CBD tincture, especially those of us who are very active or stressed out. Every tester liked the Peppermint Select CBD tincture during the daytime, active hours. The team members mostly liked the Lavender Select CBD tincture for chilling at the end of the day.
Select CBD Drops cost $65.00 in every variety, or $0.065/mg. Are these the drop-dead, absolute best CBD drops available on the market today? Our team cannot say that.
However, for what they are, compared to other, similar products, Select CBD Drops are a fantastic value and among the best. This is true even though Select CBD offers the experience, quality, and feel of a high-end brand.
Some users might think that a 1,000 mg bottle of CBD sounds like a lot to start with, but it’s important to get some perspective. CBD affects different people in massively different ways. Marta goes through that amount in less than half a week. Other team members use far smaller amounts, and can make a bottle like that last a really long time.
Let’s start with the Select CBD Unflavored Drops variety, because it’s somewhat miraculous. By that we mean that it does what it says: it is flavorless. Clean, no bitter, seed-like aftertaste, no nothing. Phew!
Yes, we too have been disappointed many times over by many different “unflavored” versions of CBD oil in the past. This one really is neutral.
Select CBD Lavender Tincture was not cloying or too sweet, but instead was relaxing and subtle like we were hoping. Select CBD Lemon Ginger Drops were genuinely tasty, and we enjoyed consuming them. Select CBD Peppermint Tincture was cool and refreshing, and not too over the top in terms of minty flavor.
Our team tested Select CBD Unflavored Drops with the general goal of seeing what, if any, basic CBD benefits we would get. We tested the Select CBD Lavender Drops in the evening hours doing more relaxed activities. The athletes among us tested Select CBD Lemon Ginger Tincture after working out. Finally, the whole team tested Select CBD Peppermint Drops during working hours to see how we would like them.
Select CBD indicates that it takes about 30 minutes for these drops to work in the body, which was accurate. For most of our testers, one serving was enough for four to six hours. However, several testers on the team needed who regularly use large amounts of full-spectrum oils felt the serving lasted more like three to four hours.
The Unflavored drops provided most of our testers with anxiety relief and mild pain relief. Only a few testers found moderate pain relief.
The Lavender drops gave most testers great results relaxing, falling asleep faster, and staying asleep longer. Those with insomnia also had good results. One tester found Lavender okay for daytime use, but this may be because that tester experiences social anxiety.
The Lemon Ginger variety gave most testers a spike in energy. It also seemed to help with productivity and mental focus, especially for a tester with ADHD. However, as to pain and inflammation, the results were less impressive, with only some testers experiencing mild results.
The Peppermint drops gave our team very similar results to the Lemon Ginger variety. In fact, we found the results almost the same—but we liked the Lemon Ginger flavor more!
Pros and cons
Pros for the Select CBD Drops:
- Cost-effective compared to other similar products
- Effective for stress, relaxation
- Nice flavors, and a great unflavored option
- Great use of essential oils
Cons for the Select CBD Drops:
- Not as effective as a full-spectrum oil
The bottom line
Our favorite Select CBD Drops are Lemon Ginger. Most of our team felt energetic, productive, and focused. We loved the taste, and found it was just as effective as the Peppermint version.
Honorable mention: Unflavored. Among a sea of options that claim to be unflavored and aren’t, this one really is.
Select CBD Gel Caps
These Social CBD Gel Caps are a quick and easy way to get a daily dose of CBD. They are free of soy products and sugar and come in four varieties — Balance, Boost, Recover, and Rest — to help you manage whatever the day throws at you.
We tested the Select CBD Gel Caps 1,000 mg Boost and Rest products.
Look and experience
Like with other Select CBD products, Select CBD Gel Capsules come in boxes. However, these are color-coded, with each dosage having its own look. Third-party lab results are right on the box.
Select CBD Gel Capsules contain 33.33 mg of CBD per serving. At 30 gel caps per bottle, that means you’re getting about 1,000 mg of CBD each. Many CBD softgels or capsules ring in around 20 to 30 mg, so 33.33 is pretty good.
Even more impressive, though, is the high quality and amounts of the other herbal ingredients in these capsules. These are still active ingredients, and they add power to every variety except Balance.
Speaking of which, Select CBD gel capsules come in four varieties:
Select CBD Balance gel capsules are the purest variety, with no added herbal ingredients.
The Boost gel capsules also contain 75 mg of moringa and 75 mg of yerba mate each. Both help the body battle fatigue, and yerba mate also has caffeine. There is no real smell to these gel capsules, but there is a slight sweet flavor.
The Recover gel capsules also contain 5 mg of black pepper extract and 75 mg of curcumin per gel capsule. Curcumin is an extremely effective natural anti-inflammatory agent. Black pepper extract helps curcumin work, because it contains piperine, which makes curcumin more bioavailable. They also contain a relaxation power couple: 75 mg of passion flower and 75 mg of valerian root. These both promote relaxation and sleep.
Just like the Select CBD Drops, the Select CBD gel capsules cost $65.00 per bottle. This means they are $2.17 per capsule or $0.065 per mg.
This price is competitive among other high-quality CBD isolate products. In fact, Select CBD gel capsules are priced better than anything else on the market at that concentration that we saw, at least among isolate products. They are also providing high quality herbal ingredients, which is a value-added bonus.
We tested how well Select CBD Boost gel capsules worked based on our testers’ focus and energy levels. We tested how well Select CBD Rest gel capsules worked based on our testers’ ability to fall and stay asleep, and to relax beforehand.
Although Select CBD does not say how long their gel capsules take to work, any swallowed pill usually takes around 30 minutes to hit the bloodstream. A 20 to 30 minute onset time was typical for our testers. Effects lasted for approximately four hours, although for some testers that’s tough to say as they were asleep for longer.
We liked the Boost gel capsules a lot, overall. Most testers found them effective for more focus and energy, yet still felt calm. Almost all testers agreed that Boost gel capsules were best in the morning, and a few testers liked using them like a cup of coffee or strong tea—sort of like a morning or early afternoon pick-me-up.
We loved the Rest gel capsules, too. Most testers used them and found a greater sense of relaxation before bed. All testers fell asleep faster, and nearly all testers stayed asleep more readily.
A note on CBD gel capsule use: you might wonder why you’d bother with gel capsules. CBD gel caps are great if you are worried about getting the same dose every time. This is especially useful for patients who treat something like chronic pain or general anxiety disorder—something that needs the same, reliable dose.
Pros and Cons
Pros for the Select CBD gel caps:
- A reasonable cost
- Excellent herbal ingredients
- A fine way to get a reliable dose every time
- More CBD than average
Cons for the Select CBD gel caps:
- No opportunity to microdose
- High cost for people who need high doses
The bottom line
Select CBD gel capsules are an excellent option, especially for treating chronic conditions or a fine midday boost of energy.
Select CBD Patches
These CBD patches give instant topical relief for targeted areas experiencing pain or discomfort. Each patch contains either 20mg, 60mg or 100mg of CBD and contain no artificial fragrances. The patches are also sweat resistance and waterproof, and made to last all day.
We tested the 100mg patch for this review. They come singly or in 3-packs. The patches are designed to consistently deliver the full amount of CBD over the course of 24 hours.
The look and experience
Our Select CBD Patch Three Packs came in boxes with three individually-wrapped packages for every patch. The boxes show lab results right on them.
The packages provide patch application directions. Inside each package is one transparent patch, two alcohol swabs, and one set of directions, complete with pictures. The 100 mg patch measures 3.25” x 2.5”. If you want a smaller amount of CBD, you can simply cut the patch in half.
The packaging says the patches are water-resistant, and several testers can vouch for that.
There are only two ingredients in these patches, but transdermal delivery of CBD is fairly sophisticated, and makes for a relatively high rate of bioavailability compared with other routes of CBD delivery. Patches are also an ideal way to ensure consistent, measured dosing every day even if you tend to forget things. Just put on the patch and forget about it.
Follow the directions to apply the patch, swabbing the venous, hairless target area with alcohol swabs first. Aim for a place like your wrist or the top of your foot. After the spot is clean, apply the patch and press it into place firmly for at least 30 seconds.
Ingredients and dosages
The only two ingredients in Select CBD’s patches are CBD hemp extract and the polymer blend it’s suspended in. The single 100 mg CBD patch costs $19.99, or the three-pack costs $49.99.
It’s no question that these patches are convenient. You put them on and forget about them. They also dose you in a predictable, reliable way. They also allow you to keep getting your CBD even if you’re sleeping, at work, whatever.
These are not cheap. The three-pack of 100 mg patches makes your cost for about 1000 mg of CBD more than $150. However, when you consider that it’s a novel delivery method that you may not need to employe every single time, you can see why this is the right choice for some consumers.
We tested the Select CBD Patch for general effects. The 100 mg patches were moderately effective for most of our testers, who enjoyed using them overall. Unlike vaping CBD, the patches provide a much more even experience that you sort of forget about in a pleasant way.
Pros and Cons
Pros for the Select CBD Patch:
- Highly convenient
- Works even while you sleep
Cons for the Select CBD Patch:
- A bit expensive
- Didn’t work for all testers
The bottom line
These Select CBD patches may be best for people who need to achieve modest to moderate effects over the course of 24 hours with a very convenient method of administration.
Select CBD Muscle Rub
The Social CBD Muscle Rub combines pure hemp-derived CBD oil with healing ingredients like Tea Tree Oil, Aloe and Vitamin E to create a cooling, and satisfying topical that provides quick relief on targeted areas of your body. Plus a hint of menthol creates an instant cooling sensation.
To help us feel even better after working out, we tested Select CBD Muscle Rub.
Look and experience
Select CBD Muscle Rub comes in a4.5-ounce tin, inside a small box. There are third-party lab results right on the box.
Ingredients and dosage
This balm is a greasy infusion of CBD along with arnica, aloe, vitamin E, menthol, and tea tree oil. There is 250 mg of CBD in each 4.5-ounce tin of Select CBD Muscle Rub, priced at $35.
That’s not a tremendously high concentration of CBD, but you would never know it! This is an awesome product. Compared to others like it, it is priced well—and it simply works.
Arnica can relieve pain and inflammation, and can treat small injuries like bruises. Aloe and tea tree oil are both known for their anti-inflammatory qualities. Vitamin E is wonderful for skin health.
Menthol stimulates and numbs opioids receptors, helping to relieve pain, and cooling heat caused by inflammation. Yerba mate can help muscles recover after intense exercise. All told, it’s not tough to see why slathering this stuff on you relieves pain!
Even Marta, who has another balm she adores, loves this one too. If you’re lucky enough to have a friend who can apply this, you will almost immediate feel some relief in your muscles. Then, over the course of about 15 minutes, you will feel even looser as muscle tension and soreness dissipates. Bonus: it smells wonderful.
Select CBD Muscle Rub smells pungent but not unpleasant, and the scene goes away rapidly. It isn’t greasy, but creamy, and absorbs into the skin well.
Our testers felt the effects of Select CBD Muscle Rub instantly, and they persisted for about two hours. We loved the effects and wanted to use this product again and again.
One tester suffers from repetitive stress injuries in the neck and shoulder, and this rub was very useful for her. Another team member has arthritis, and the rub helps with that inflammation. Other testers found the Select CBD Muscle Rub feels great both before and after sports, yoga, and hiking. One tester felt the rub helped with eczema and other skin irritations.
Pros and Cons
Pros for the Select CBD Muscle Rub:
- A good price and great value
- Great packaging, eliminating the tin
- Extremely effective
- Many uses for almost anyone
- Effective ingredients
Cons for the Select CBD Muscle Rub:
- Relatively low concentration of CBD
The bottom line
We loved Select CBD Muscle Rub and think almost anyone else would, too.
Select PETS CBD Drops
Social CBD’s pet products include CBD oil drops in four flavors — Chicken, Peanut Butter, Bacon, and unflavored. For the pets who need topical relief, their CBD paw balm is specially formulated to relieve painful and itchy paws. Select Pet CBD is made with the same high-quality CBD formula as their human blend.
Select PETS CBD Drops come in 750mg concentrations of CBD and are priced at $60. This product comes in four flavors: Bacon, Chicken, Peanut Butter, and Unflavored. One lucky golden retriever and one lucky pitbull mix each tested the peanut butter and chicken varieties.
Like their human products, for all but the unflavored version Select CBD adds all-natural spices and herbs to each flavor to produce health benefits and better flavor. While we can’t “speak” for our testers, they did seem to like these drops. Furthermore, both dogs seemed to experience calmer moods, and the golden retriever appeared to get some pain relief out of the deal.
Select CBD: The Brand
Editor’s note: Select CBD has rebranded as Social CBD — so when you click through and visit their site, you’ll see the new branding. However, most people (for now) still know them as Select CBD, so that’s how we’ll refer to them for the time being.
Since they came onto the scene in 2015, Select has been among the biggest CBD brands.
The challenge was to make cannabis usable for someone who couldn’t smoke. Vaping seemed to be the answer, but the glass wicks vaporizers typically sport were too damaging for this particular patient. Select’s organic, Japanese cotton wick is the result of lots of experimentation—and clean way to deliver CBD.
Select CBD’s market-leading CBD products were the result, and since that time, the company has gone on to distinguish itself, having been featured in Allure, Esquire, Forbes, and others.
Select CBD’s products are best-known for pure CBD, potency, and flavor. And while the brand isn’t cheap—quality never is—they do offer 20 percent discounts for life to first responders and veterans.
Unlike many other brands, Select CBD has you covered no matter how you like to take your CBD. They’ve got their signature vape pens—among our favorite offerings, naturally. But they also offer CBD gel caps, tincture drops, muscle rubs, and even drops for pets.
Select CBD Quality Standards
Select CBD uses third-party testing to adhere to high standards for their products. You can see the results of the testing on the website, or by request based on the batch number.
There are various factors that influence the quality of a CBD brand, including how and where the business sources their hemp, which extraction methods they use, whether they use independent, third-party labs to confirm quality, and whether they are certified by state and federal agencies.
Select CBD rebranded itself to become Social CBD in summer of 2019. This was apparently to distinguish CBD use from cannabis use in part. (The Select name is also attached to high THC cannabis extracts.)
Select sources their industrial hemp from licensed farms in a supply chain that is well-documented. Once products are created, every one is tested to high standards. All Select CBD products are batch tested for concentration, microbes, and pesticides by accredited labs.
Select CBD extracts hemp oil using ethanol. This is a clean, safe extraction method, frequently used for full-spectrum products as well.
Select CBD User Experience
The Select CBD brand style is modern, clean and professional. The packaging and website all share that look, and the website seeks to provide that feel in its use which it mostly achieves.
The online shop is pretty easy to navigate, and information about the referral program and discounts are fairly simple to find, as are FAQs. The mobile version is also easy, a must for our team.
With Select CBD you can return products “No Questions Asked” if needed, and the process is generally effective. If you want a refund, you have to return it within 30 days, unopened, and in good condition. You also have to pay to ship it back.
Online Select CBD Reviews
There are plenty of reviews of Select CBD online. You’ll find most of them on Trustpilot, where the average brand score is 4.5 out of 5.0 or “excellent” over more than 3,025 reviews. About 83 percent of reviewers gave Select 5 stars.
The VV team took some time reviewing Select CBD products, and we feel comfortable recommending Select CBD. Based on the quality, price, experience, and effects, these are excellent CBD products.
Select CBD offers a luxury brand experience with a cost-effective, value-added price. In fact, one of the reasons they have earned their reputation over time is that they have learned how to compete in this industry. Products that just give you more is the best way, and that’s what Select CBD offers: safe, carefully-sources, pure, products of the highest quality that make them feel awesome.
Our team’s favorites:
The Select CBD Peppermint Vape Pen. The taste stands on its own, and the effects were great across the board.
The Lemon-Ginger Energy Select CBD Drops. Again, the taste on these knocked it out of the park, and we got lots of amazing effects.
The Select CBD Muscle Rub. This was a sleeper favorite, great for everyone who tried it.

CBD Review: Select CBD 1000 mg Lemon Ginger Flavor
In today’s review, Judson Ross of Thrive Yoga and Wellness will talk to you about a new product that we recently got at the studio called Select CBD 1000 mg Lemon Ginger Flavored CBD. This is a CBD Isolate, which means the company has virtually eliminated the THC from their products. However, Select CBD does not state that there are non-traceable amounts of CBD in this product, so if you are subject to random drug tests, this is definitely something to keep in mind.
About Select CBD
Select CBD is based out of Oregon and uses both Oregon and Kentucky Hemp in their products. This company got its start making vape pens for marijuana that did not contain any unsafe ingredients. They branched into the hemp market shortly after, with CBD products for both pets and humans. Select CBD uses a CBD Isolate in all their products, which virtually eliminates the trace amounts of THC. They have CBD Oil, Vapes, Capsules and Topical Products.
This product will not get you high.
Key Points to Remember with Select CBD Lemon Ginger 1000 mg CBD oil
This is a CBD Isolate Product, which means the negligible amount of THC, which is.3% in full spectrum products, is reduced even further. The company uses American grown hemp that is 3rd party tested and grown using organic practices (although they are not certified organic). The Select CBD Lemon Ginger 1000 mg CBD oil also includes Lemon, Ginger, and Turmeric for both flavoring and their respective beneficial qualities. Each bottle is 30 ml and contains 30 1 ml doses. Each dose contains around 35 mg of CBD.
Select CBD Lemon Ginger 1000 mg CBD Oil
- It is an Isolate
- The ingredients are coconut oil, lemon, ginger, and turmeric
- The value is average coming in about $65 per 30 ml bottle
- Suggested serving size is 1 ml and has about 35 mg of CBD
What’s to Love about Select CBD 1000 mg Lemon Ginger CBD
This product tastes really good. Since it is an isolate, a lot of the more “earthy” flavors are reduced and the lemon and ginger go a long way in improving flavor even more. It is a good concentration, at almost 35 mg of CBD per dose so it will help people with both mild to medium symptoms. The benefits last for several hours, and it is recommended to start with two doses per day, increasing as necessary.
For Judson, the benefits start to work within 30 minutes and last him 8-10 hours. It also helps him to sleep really well, helping him to go to sleep and stay asleep all night. It also reduced his pain within half an hour.
What Select CBD 1000 mg Lemon Ginger CBD could improve
This product comes in at $65 /bottle. That is about average in terms of market price for similar concentrations os full spectrum products. Normally, Isolate products are a little less expensive than their full spectrum cousins. The Select CBD packaging and website, although visually appealing is not very informative. Their website doesn’t inform us very much, in fact, we didn’t know it was an isolated product until the sales representative called to educate us. The salesman did say they were revamping their website which would help to improve this major downfall to the overall business strategy.
Select CBD Lemon Ginger 1000 mg CBD Oil In Summary
The product does taste good and does what it is supposed to do, ie relax, reduce pain, and improve sleep. It is a little on the expensive side compared to full spectrum products, but that is probably because of the added essential oils and natural flavors. You will probably start to see this product in our studio very soon.

Level Select CBD is a brand geared towards active individuals looking for recovery and relief. It offers 0% THC CBD topicals, oils, gummies, and other products in multiple strength varieties.
Bottom line: Level Select is a solid brand, especially for athletes looking for 0.0% THC CBD products. But it has room for improvement.
- Multiple product potencies
- 0% THC products ideal for drug-tested athletes
- Good terpene levels in many products
- Affordable prices
- Detailed third-party testing
- Limited details about the hemp source and overall production process
- Most products contain low levels of minor cannabinoids
Overall Rating: 3.7/5
Product Lineup 4.5/5
Level Select offers a variety of CBD products with different strengths and formulations. The only major thing missing is CBD capsules.
Level Select’s prices are below the market average, especially for CBD oil. Plus, you get 35% off for subscribing and free shipping.
Hemp Quality 2/5
While we like the badges telling us that the company’s hemp is USA-grown, we want more information. Is it organic? Which state is it cultivated in?
Third-Party Testing 4/5
Level Select uses a reputable testing lab and provides complete purity and potency test reports (including both cannabinoid and terpene levels). But the levels of minor cannabinoids are low in most products.
Customer Service & Reputation 4/5
Level Select is a fairly new brand with few customer reviews. It needs more time to establish itself. Still, the reviews it has so far are positive.
Table of Contents
Level Select Overview
Level Select CBD was founded in 2019 in Newport, CA. It primarily focuses on products for athletes.
The current lineup consists of CBD creams, roll-ons, oils, gummies, teas, and pet products. Most of these are available in 3 “levels” (CBD strengths), giving you the option to choose the right product and potency for your needs.
Level Select is backed by a former US Surgeon General and several current and retired pro athletes. Complete third-party test results are also available on the website, although it doesn’t provide information on where it sources its hemp from.
- Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with a wide variety of beneficial properties (1).
- Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts than CBD. For hemp, THC also counts as a minor cannabinoid.
- Hemp: non-intoxicating cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (less than 0.3%).
- Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about 4 times more potent than pure CBD (2).
- Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
- CBD isolate: pure CBD with all other hemp compounds removed.
Level Select Product Lineup
Level Select has a solid variety of broad-spectrum (0.0% THC) products, most of which are marketed towards athletes. They include sports creams, roll-ons, and oils available in 3 strength levels (low, medium, and high), as well as gummies, teas, and pet products. Read on for our reviews below.
Level Select’s topicals are its main product line because they’re well-suited for providing targeted muscle and joint relief for active individuals. They include 3 levels of creams and roll-ons.
Level Select Sports Cream
|CBD Potency||3.4-13.5 mg/ml|
|Volume||89 ml (3oz)|
|Total CBD||300-1200 mg|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.05-0.09|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
The Sports Creams are Level Select’s most popular products. They work similarly to something like IcyHot or Bengay. These products contain broad-spectrum CBD mixed with menthol for its reliable cooling, relieving effects.
They come in three levels (strengths). We like this product but prefer the CBD strengths to be higher.
Level Select Sports Roll-on
|CBD Potency||4-16 mg/ml|
|Volume||74 ml (2.5oz)|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.07-0.13|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
The Sports Roll-ons from Level Select easily fit into a gym bag and are intended to be used on the go. Like the cream, it comes in 3 different levels, but the overall weight is reduced, increasing the CBD concentration. They also include menthol and mint, adding soothing relief and a pleasant scent.
Level Select CBD Oil Drops
|CBD Potency||20-83 mg/ml|
|Total CBD||600-5000 mg|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.02-0.03|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
Level Select also provides standard CBD oil with 2 sizes (30-60 ml) and 3 strength levels, a sleep version, and multiple flavors.
The standard oil comes in unflavored or mint flavoring, with vanilla flavor for the sleep formula, appropriately named Level Zzz. The Level Zzz drops are also infused with melatonin to promote sleep.
We like the potencies and the low prices of these CBD oils. They also contain a wide variety of terpenes. But they have very low levels of minor cannabinoids.
Level Select CBD Gummies
|CBD Potency||25 mg|
|Total CBD||125-750 mg|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.07-0.08|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
Level Select offers CBD gummies with 3 different formulas in regular or trial sizes. All contain the same 25 mg of broad-spectrum CBD but have different flavors and additional ingredients:
- The Immune Support formula is citrus-flavored and is infused with vitamin C and turmeric
- The Restful Sleep formula is berry-flavored and is infused with melatonin and lemon balm
- The Focused Energy is tropical-flavored and contains caffeine and ginseng.
We like these specialized formulas but the third-party tests only show CBD in these gummies. Other minor cannabinoids should be present in a broad-spectrum hemp product.
|CBD Potency||15 mg|
|Total CBD||270 mg|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.09|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
Somewhat unique to Level Select is the range of tea products infused with CBD. These products are to be used just like normal tea bags but with 15 mg of CBD in each. There are 4 tea types to choose from.
Naturally, chamomile is being promoted for sleep, green tea for focus, English breakfast for the morning, and earl grey for a pick-me-up.
These pet CBD products are offered under the brand Purity Preferred, which is owned by the same company as Level Select.
Pet Calming and Hip & Joint CBD Drops
|CBD Potency||3-30 mg/ml|
|Total CBD||100-900 mg|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.11-0.70|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
Level Select offers two different pet oil formulas, Calming and Hip & Joint. The Calming oil drops are available in 4 potency levels: small dogs and cats, medium dogs, large, and extra-large dog breeds.
Meanwhile, the Hip & Joint formula is available in 3 levels. The drops come in bacon and chicken flavors that your pets will likely enjoy.
Both oils also contain moringa, krill oil, and copaiba, which have a variety of potential benefits. But we don’t see any different ingredients between the two formulas.
Pet Hip & Joint Balm
|CBD Potency||4-8 mg/ml|
|Volume||50 ml (1.69oz)|
|Cost per mg CBD||$0.09-0.12|
|Third-Party Test||View report|
In addition to the drops, Level Select also provides its Hip & Joint formula as a roll-on application for pets. You’ll find all of the standard balm ingredients plus 200 or 400 mg of CBD and moringa.
Price & Value
CBD products can easily be assessed for value by dividing the cost by the total amount of CBD in milligrams (mg). This offers a look at exactly how much a milligram of CBD is going to cost, and can help you determine whether or not the price point is worth it.
Keep in mind that the price varies for different types of products. Here are the prices offered by Level Select:
- $0.05-0.13 per mg for CBD topicals
- $0.02-0.03 per mg for CBD oil
- $0.07 per mg for gummies
- $0.09 per mg for tea
- $0.09-0.70 per mg for pet products
This puts Level Select below most of the market averages for CBD products, particularly for CBD oil. On top of that, you can get a further 35% off by subscribing for monthly deliveries and the shipping is always free.
All in all, Level Select CBD offers great value.
Hemp Source and Production Process
Unfortunately, Level Select doesn’t disclose much information in terms of its hemp source or production process. This isn’t the most concerning issue, though it does matter. Hemp origin is a large factor in the quality of the products and a sign of a transparent brand.
From their website, we can gather that the hemp they use is grown in the USA. The production is also claimed to be cruelty-free. But exact details are not available.
Level Select’s products are sent for third-party testing to Green Scientific Labs, a reputable lab in Florida.
They’re tested for cannabinoid and terpene potency, as well as pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and other potential contaminants. All products come with a batch number that corresponds to the online test results, although the pet and tea product tests are found on separate websites.
Third-Party Test Results
CBD oil third-party test report CBD cream third-party test report CBD roll-on third-party test report
We always look at third-party lab test results to confirm that CBD companies sell safe and accurate products. We check:
- The levels of CBD, which should be within 10% of the label (3)
- The levels of minor cannabinoids like CBG and CBC
- The levels of THC
- Whether the CBD type (full, broad-spectrum, or isolate) is accurate
- Whether there are any contaminants
We added the latest third-party test reports for three Level Select products above:
- The level 3 roll-on, which should have 1200 mg CBD and actually contained 1263 mg, which is 5% more
- The level 3 cream, which should also provide 1200 mg CBD but had 1661 mg on the test, which is 38.4% more
- The level 3 CBD oil, which should have 5000 mg of CBD and showed 5234 mg on the tests, which is 5% higher
The cream clearly contains much more CBD than advertised. But the other two products were well within the 10% variance we expect from an accurate CBD product. It’s also great that all three tests show plenty of terpenes.
The only major issue is that all three test reports (and many other ones we looked at) show low levels of minor cannabinoids. Proper broad-spectrum CBD products should contain significantly more.
Shipping & Returns
Level Select CBD offers free shipping throughout the U.S. It also ships to anywhere in the world, though some products may have shipping restrictions. This information can be found during the checkout process, as we don’t see it listed on the website anywhere.
You can return unused products within 30 days of delivery for a full refund.
Customer Service & Reputation
Level Select CBD is a relatively new brand so it doesn’t have an established reputation.
But its customers seem satisfied, based on the minimal reviews found on the website. Nearly all products that have been reviewed have a rating of at least 4.5 stars, if not 5.
Our Verdict: Decent Choice for Fitness Enthusiasts
Level Select is a solid CBD brand for active individuals. All products contain 0.0% THC, which is great for competitive athletes that get drug tested. They’re available in three strength levels so you can match your needs to the right one.
The products are also at a great price point, especially with the subscription and free shipping deals, and come in a wide variety of options.
But Level Select does have two major areas to work on. First and foremost, the levels of minor cannabinoids in most of the products are very low. That’s important since these cannabinoids work in synergy, enhancing the effects of CBD and terpenes.
